Is it springtime yet?

After two brutal winters in Pennsylvania, one of the things that attracted Shannon and I to Seattle was the mild winters and early spring.  While this winter can't be compared to those winter in Pennsylvania,  it has been cold,   and snowing for much of Mach!  :(

Alas, it is springtime and record low temperatures be darned,  if the sun does get to shine,  the temperatures will go up.

Last week there was one such day,  where Zach, Tyler, and  I found ourselves at home on a sunny Saturday afternoon (not warm,  just sunny).

We ventured out on the Cedar River Trail

One of Zach's first bike rides of the new season,  and it is true (at least for him) that you don't forget how to ride a bike.  He rode as though he had been riding all winter.  He is fast,  strong, and getting better at control.

Tyler on the other hand is still little.  Having an active older brother has meant he has had to learn how to do a lot of things early,  but he is still little.

Today, Tyler told me he wanted to pedal and steer by himself.  Which for the most part he did.  The problem is that his legs,  and his pedals,  are so small that they have to move sooo fast to keep up with Zach.

I do help push,  but only so much,  if we go to fast his legs start churning at an unnatural rate.

We went about one mile and then  stopped near a river to work on Tyler's throwing motion.

Tyler is getting much better,  not quite to Zach's level at his age,  but much better.

As you can see in this picture above,  our window of sunshine didn't last long,  even though you can see shadows (caused by sunlight) you can see the clouds filling in the skies behind us.  The trip back to the car was a bit tough.

The winds came up and the clouds covered the sun.  It got cold and we were limited by how fast Tyler could pump his legs.  We made it though,  both boys were, hace frio,  yes that means cold to the touch.

On the way home,  Tyler didn't trust my driving abilities and insisted that he wear his helmet in the car, despite by impeccable driving record, him wearing a seat belt, and the drive being less than a mile.

Zach however, trusts my abilities.  WE did make it home safely.

Tyler went to sleep that night,  quickly, with his tired legs.
